Jim was a founding member of the Red Clay Ramblers and traveled with them for 14 years, playing mandolin, guitar, and bass. In 1988, he joined up with Robin & Linda Williams and was a member of Their Fine Group for 27 years. He is known not only for his instrumental prowess but also for his direct singing style in a distinctive tenor voice. He has released a number of solo albums, including a recording of the 26th Annual Christmas show at the Cave, plus band albums with Craver, Hicks, Watson & Newberry, with fiddler Alan Jabbour and Ken Perlman, and a new release with the Piedmont Melody Makers, which includes music legend Alice Gerrard.
He started doing a Christmas show in 1986 in Chapel Hill; it is now a beloved community tradition. This will be his 13th consecutive Christmas show in Hillsborough, the second at St. Matthew’s, a lovely historic church. He will sing a full set of holiday favorites and then end with a celebratory sing-along.
Tickets will be available at the door or you can call the church office (919-732-9308) to purchase or reserve your ticket ahead of time ($10).
