Spring for Literacy Luncheon

Daniel Wallace will speak at the Spring for Literacy Luncheon on April 6 (11 am - 2 pm) at Governors Club, to benefit Chatham Literacy.

Daniel Wallace is the author of the highly regarded novels “Big Fish,” which was adapted and released as a major motion picture, “Kings and Queens of Roam,” “Ray in Reverse,” “The Watermelon King,” and “Mr. Sebastian and the Negro Magician.” He also wrote and illustrated the children’s book “The Cat’s Pajamas.” He directs the Creative Writing program at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is the J. Ross MacDonald Distinguished Professor of English.

Regarding literacy, Mr. Wallace said, “Reading and writing is where all the power is today. If you can’t read, you are powerless in so many ways in society. You are not going to become the person that you were meant to be without that skill.” He acknowledged the challenges of adult education. “You can’t underestimate the bravery it takes for adults to admit and understand and submit themselves to this process of learning to read and write.”

Mr. Wallace promised a fun talk. He will sign books afterward. A 20% discount, in-store or day-of-the-event, will be available on any Wallace book, courtesy of McIntyre’s Books.

Chatham Literacy provides free tutoring to adults in reading, writing, math, computer skills, English as a second language, workforce soft skills, and preparation for Citizenship and a GED.
