Faulkner and Steinbeck, Aging Together: American Authors in the Cold War

June 7 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

June 7, 2016

Heidi Kim, Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature

Heidi Kim discusses her research into American literature and literary criticism in the 1950s, a decade when established authors like William Faulkner and John Steinbeck suddenly found themselves political icons, representing the best of American culture in the fight against communism. How did they navigate these pressures in their continuing artistic output, at a time when (in spite of their Nobel Prizes) critics often pronounced both of them to be in decline?

TIME: 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
